The results of the "Symposium on the Jurisprudence of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea: Assessment and Prospects"Symposium on the Outer Continental Shelf" (held at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on 29 and 30 September 2006) have been published as a special issue of the "International Journal for Marine and Coastal Law", Volume 22, Number 3, in September 2007.

This issue is edited by Prof. Dr. Doris König and includes contributions by eminent law of the sea experts. The articles analyse the different aspects of the existing case-law of the Tribunal and the status of the Tribunal with regard to General International Law.

"Symposium on the Outer Continental Shelf"

The results of the "Symposium on the Outer Continental Shelf" (held at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on 25 September 2005) have been published as a special issue of the "International Journal for Marine and Coastal Law", Volume 21, Number 3, in September 2006.

This issue is edited by Prof. Dr. Doris König and includes contributions by judges of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, eminent scholars and experienced practitioners. The articles analyse the problems arising from the complex process of delineation from a legal and technical perspective, the give an overview of the functions and competences of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf and deal in detail with Article 82 of UNCLOS and with the settlement of disputes arising from the delineation of the outer continental shelf.

"Maritime Delimitation"

"Maritime Delimitation", edited by Prof. Dr. Rainer Lagoni and Prof. Dr. Daniel Vignes, has been published in 2006 and is now available (see the flyer by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers). This co-publication with the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea includes contributions by Judges of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, eminent scholars and experienced practitioners. The papers deal with various aspects of maritime delimitation from different perspectives.

They result from the "Symposium on Maritime Delimitation", organised by the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea, which took place at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in September 2004.

Our Summer Academy

Since its founding in 2007 the "IFLOS Summer Academy"  at the seat of ITLOS in Hamburg has become a center of excellence for students and junior staff in the field of international law of the sea and maritime law. The schedule also includes maritime-related subjects from economics and natural sciences. Judges from the Tribunal and renowned representatives from academia and maritime commerce serve as lecturers to a carefully selected group of highly motivated participants from around the globe.
