Coalter G. Lathrop

Lathrop practices law through his company, Sovereign Geographic, an international boundary consultancy providing legal and cartographic services to government clients worldwide.  He has acted as counsel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), and has advised boundary clients in the context of negotiation, mediation and arbitration.  He holds a Master of Marine Affairs from the University of Washington, and a J.D. and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from Duke University.  Lathrop is a member of the extended faculty at Duke Law and editor of International Maritime Boundaries.  His research, writing and speaking is focused on ocean law and the resolution of international disputes, including territorial sovereignty and maritime boundary disputes.
