Dr. Dieter Schwampe , born 1957, qualified as a German lawyer in 1985. After studying jurisprudence and Japanology in Konstanz, Bonn and Hamburg and obtaining his law doctorate “Charterers’ Liability Insurance” Dieter Schwampe started his career at Dabelstein & Passehl in 1985. In 1988 he became a partner and since 2000 the Managing Partner.

Focus of Practice:

The special areas of practice of Dieter Schwampe are insurance law as well as shipping law. In insurance law he is a specialist in hull- as well as P&I insurance, cargo insurance and re-insurance. He also intensively works in the insurance broker’s liability. Regarding shipping law he specializes in Bills of Lading, charter parties and general average. Dieter Schwampe is regularly nominated as an arbitrator. He is member of the German Maritime Arbitrators Association and the German Institute for Arbitration. He also comments on P&I insurance law in the commentary Transport Insurance and has published his own commentary on the German marine hull Insurance clauses. Shortly he will publish a new edition of the leading German text book on marine insurance. He is member of the Executive Board of the Hamburg Association of Insurance Science; member of the Executive Board of the Transport and Forwarding Law Commission of the German Lawyers Association, member of the standing Committee on Marine Insurance of Comité Maritime International (CMI); member of the Legal and Liability Committee of the International Union of Marine Insurers (IUMI) and Lecturer on Marine Insurance at the University of Hamburg.
