In 2006 Ms Sigrid Wettwer started working for Germanischer Lloyd as Legal Counsel in the Corporate Unit Legal Affairs and Compliance, where she is in charge of contractual work and legal consultation of the Maritime Services as well as liability issues of the company, especially in the maritime area. As she is very well known for her outstanding legal expertise in the field of maritime classification services she is not only lecturing GL staff worldwide but also at other institutions e.g. the World Maritime University in Malmö (Sweden).
In June 2009 Sigrid returned from a secondment to Germanischer Lloyd’s Region Office Asia/Pacific in Shanghai where Germanischer Lloyd recently set up a Chinese subsidiary. Here Sigrid was supporting and training local GL staff in various maritime law and related compliance matters.
Sigrid’s academic education was from the very beginning very internationally orientated. She studied law in Hamburg (Germany), Lausanne (Switzerland) and Cape Town (South Africa). Sigrid is specialised in maritime affairs. She is holding a master’s degree in Shipping Law from the University of Cape Town and further assimilated her knowledge in the maritime sector with many further educations and legal traineeships e.g at Hapag Lloyd Container-Linie, the German Federal Office for Maritime Affairs and German High Court for Shipping Affairs before joining Germanischer Lloyd Head Office in Hamburg.
