On 25 September 2005 a Symposium on

“Problems of the Outer Continental Shelf”

took place at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg.

The results of the “Symposium on the Outer Continental Shelf” (held at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on 25 September 2005) have been published as a special issue of the “International Journal for Marine and Coastal Law”, Volume 21, Number 3, in September 2006.

This issue is edited by Prof. Dr. Doris König and includes contributions by judges of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, eminent scholars and experienced practitioners. The articles analyse the problems arising from the complex process of delineation from a legal and technical perspective, the give an overview of the functions and competences of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf and deal in detail with Article 82 of UNCLOS and with the settlement of disputes arising from the delineation of the outer continental shelf.
